173 miles

Since yesterday was a holiday hubby didn't have to work. The nice thing about this job compared to his others is that he will now get a holiday off even if it is during the week. He had work late the night before, so we didn't actually leave 'til after 11 am. We were lucky in the fact that although it was above 90 degrees, it wasn't terribly hot due to all the clouds. We took off and skirted around Sopchoppy's 4th of July parade and headed out onto roads less traveled. So less traveled that they had grass popping through the cracks. Miles and miles of trees, as well as, a long black rat snake crossing the road, a nice size box turtle crossing the other direction and 2 deer bounding out in front of us. Some vultures were hogging the road at one point and it took several hits of hubby's horn to get them out of the way. We stopped in Bristol to see if the train was running, but unfortunately it was not. By then we had rode 71 miles and we needed a short break. That is the longest I have ridden in one hop and I didn't even feel tired. We had a drink of water and hubby and little man played chase around the picnic tables. We then headed out. Hubby went the wrong way and we rode on a foot path and over a wooden bridge; since he didn't fall through I followed, but needless to say I really wouldn't want to do that again. We were off for more back roads riding and I experienced my first downfall with owning a 150cc scooter. For the most part Florida is flat or so it seems until you get further north and encounter the 'hills' (more like mountains in my opinion). Whereas hubby's 500cc barely slowed, I was barely pushing 50 mph at full throttle. It is not bad, but it does make me feel like the scoot is just gonna say to hell with it and quit on me. It also kills my gas mileage. I will say I was rewarded when coasting down hill at over 70 mph with beautiful scenery and fun curves. Upon reaching Chattahoochee, we found the diner closed that hubby wanted to eat at. Subway is what we had and little man even got a free cookie. Hubby then took us down to the Dam and little man played on the playground. It was cool 'cause it had a merry-go-round and a pint size metal slide. Little man loves slides and slid down several times before we left. We decided to take a quicker route home due to little man looking very sleepy. We took 90 east and I got stuck behind a person who was eating while driving. Now generally it is not so bad if the food is in the person's lap, but if that said person has to reach over to the passenger seat and dip the food into something else...well let's just say that said person's driving skills are severally lacking. Now if we were back in Crawfordville I would have been able to pass just fine, but we were in hill country and I wasn't passing. Eventually I got to where I could pass (even laid down a little to go faster) and off I went. We cruised through 'til Quincy and then headed south. I again got stuck behind a slow moving vehicle, hills and this time gas light was on (yeah me). These people instead of staying slow decided that cruising downhill fast was fun also. They eventually turned off and we stopped for gas. Last leg of the way home and I am singing loudly (and off key) in my helmet to keep myself awake. I feel like I am permanently stuck in one position and I ache all over. We reach home and then head for a much needed nap. I am excited to see that I am in fact building my stamina and making longer trips. I just require a full day of rest and naps the next day. 27 more miles and I will have reached a 200 mile trip. OK now time for another nap. ;P

Congrats on your long ride. The first time I took a ride that went from 9am - 9pm, I came home and collapsed, lol.

I surprised myself and slept only a couple of hours...I thought for sure I wouldn't wake up until midnight. I just tend to feel like jelly for a couple of days afterwards. I have yet to ride that long...I probably would sleep for a day. ;P
